Hey. It's November and as we get closer to the end of the year, things can start to look a little out of focus. The end of the year is usually full of holiday gatherings, special times celebrating with friends, and catching up with family. It can also cue a time for reflection. Where have we gone this year? Where have we been this year? How much have we accomplished this year?

It can feel overwhelming and confidence crushing if we don't feel like we are making change in ourselves or for the world. If we reflect in an environment where social media is prevalent, the change we are trying to make can feel hard to reach. We see friends having terrific careers, coworkers proving all the right answers and parents smiling with perfect, happy children. We don't see the late nights, personal sacrifices and exhaustion that goes into it all. In short, social media is a great magic trick. It provides an illusion that everyone else has a perfect existence without any work or turmoil.

As I write this, it's becoming apparent that reflecting on one's successes based on the current social media fever fruitless. It doesn't answer: "Are we still seeking the change we want to see in the world?"

Today, don't reflect on what you could have done this year but seek out the change you want to see in the world. Create a change for yourself and in turn the world. Do you have a presidential candidate that you feel strongly about? Go campaign for them. Do you want to be a cartoon illustrator? Start drawing. Do you love working with kids? Start a daycare. Are you passionate about changing education? Write a manifesto. Go create something. It's not what we have done that is important, or what others appear to be doing but what we can do that matters.

There are eight weeks left in the year. What change will you make?
