// Hello, Friends-

At this moment we are living in an interesting time. “The Virus” is circulating around the globe and living in San Francisco, the contagion is popping up here, there and everywhere! This means everyone’s panic button is running on overdrive. This week, when I did my weekly shopping, I was astounded to find store shelves completely empty. Canned goods, toilet paper, dried pasta, flour, disinfectant wipes, and soap vaporized from shelves overnight!

If you are a bit like me, you most likely are having a moment of worry.

You might ask yourself, “Should I start to stockpile goods too?”

And most importantly, “What should I hoard?”

Well, I say forget the bootie paper and salted chicken water and check out 8 things that are at the top of my “Don’t Panic! What To Hoard For Any Pandemic Or Crisis” list.

// Friends -

It’s been a while since something novel popped in your inbox.

Did you miss the creative inspiration and sometimes wild ideas?

Yes, of course you did!

And so did I.

The good news is I wasn’t taking a long, luxurious vacation or contemplating a depressing break-up from all our creative work.

For the past few months, there has been a not-so-secret project in the works. It’s something especially developed just for all of you readers and creators. A ton of hard work and time has been stuffed into creating and developing something…for all of YOU!

However, before the big reveal happens, I just want to say “Hello,” because greeting someone can make everyone’s day.

So, try looking someone in the eyes today and say “Hi, Hello, Hey!” in any language and watch the day become wonderful.

Until soon creative friends! //

Happiness Lies In This Challenge For You.

What is better? Mental Challenge or Mental Boredom? Sometimes it's hard to decide between the two. It's like seeing the glass half full or half empty. It all depends on other things circling in our lives and where our mind and emotions sit within a day. Mental chaos tends to bring the need for boredom while a quite mind begs for a big challenge.

In short, knowing what we need is not all black and white.

That's why we have friends.

Last week a friend challenged me to post seven days of black and white photographs on Facebook. As there is always a catch, the photos could not contain humans or explanations. To me, the whole trial seemed like a piece of cake! All I needed to do was snap a few pictures, upload to social media and the week would be complete.

But then I snapped the first photo.

Confronted with the fact I needed to create seven thrilling images to amuse and interest an audience was unnerving, complicated and thought-provoking. It was a reminder that often things seem simple but are complex.

And therein lies the challenge.

It turns out black and white photos don't always translate into deeply, textured images. Subject matter matters when there is no explanation or context. Lighting and perspective is a key to telling a respectable narrative and comfort zones are an exciting threshold to challenge.

Here are a few images that didn't make the cut:

Looking around at our world and seeing past humans was a fascinating study of life. It begged the question, is happiness is born from filtering our lives in a new way?

Try it and see if happiness follows for you too.

"Seven days. Seven black and white photos of your life. No humans. No explanation. Challenge someone on the last day."

Until tomorrow friends.

This Is The Only New Years Resolution That Will Make You Happy.
fill_up_sq.jpg

Here we are at the start of a new year. It can feel daunting to begin something fresh. A blank sheet waits for us to make the next chapter to take shape. In the pressure, we make resolutions. We are going lose weight, read more books, get a new job, organize our lives, travel the world, and live life to the fullest. We set goals and start our checklist.

However, what if happiness comes from making only one resolution?

What if we ask ourselves "Does this fill me up?"

Does this food fill me up?

Does this relationship fill me up?

Does this travel fill me up?

Does this exercise fill me up?

Does this kind of thinking fill me up?

Does this feeling fill me up?

If the answer is no, then let's move on to something that does. If we are lucky, happiness might just follow, and the next chapter might fill with a narrative filled with joy.

Until tomorrow friends.

Day 180 - 4th Magic.

Day 180 - You guys! It's Monday! Super!!! Awesome!!! I love Monday!!!

Really? Nope. Yuck. I hate positive mumbo jumbo and Mondays. Who likes Mondays? Geeze. I hauled myself out of bed this morning, only to find I wanted to crawl right back to Friday. The bright spot of the morning was when I realized the upcoming weekend is a holiday. Fourth of July is right around the corner. Oh, how I love celebrating the birth of the good, old U.S.A.

When I was in my mid twenties, I had nothing but smooth unwrinkled skin, a totally oblivious sense to danger and some extra cash. So, I took a trip with great friends to New York City over the 4th of July weekend. My friend lived in amazing part of Manhattan called Hells Kitchen in a fabulous rent controlled apartment. It was in smack dab in the middle of everything.

After a long flight, we arrived at her apartment, and was greeted with a dreamy list of "things to do on July 4th weekend" and homemade rhubarb crumble. The list was ambitious and the crumble fabulous. What I, however, remember the most about that weekend was we checked everything off that very long list. This included taking the Q train to the one and only Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest on Coney Island and watching the fireworks on a boat on the Hudson river.

It was a blast-it-out, crazy, amazing weekend that will forever go down in my history book as one of the best 4th of July weekends ever. What is it about 4th of July that provides such magic? Reminiscing today forced me to sit down and make a list of how I would like to celebrate this 4th of July. Today's project is to create a non-stop fun 4th of July checklist. Where will you go? What will you eat? What will you see?

I need to get back to dreaming about Jr.'s cheesecake and adding new places to watch fireworks on my checklist. Let me know where you are headed this 4th of July and how the 4th creates magic for you. See you tomorrow great Americans!

Day 29 - Mom Jeans. Dad Jeans.

Day 29 - Hey Folks! It's Friday. TGFMJ! In other words, Thank Goodness For Mom Jeans because it's time to pull them on and soak up Friday. Men, this post is for you too because there are some terrific Dad jeans out there. Where am I going with this post you ask?

We are going to fire up the creative juices by pulling out our LBNB and sketching something that makes us giggle. For some reason the phrase Mom or Dad jeans just gives me a good belly laugh. Try googling "Mom Jeans" or "Dad Jeans" adorable right? Now, take 7 min or so to think of something that makes you chuckle and draw it. Now let's hear from you. What gives you a Friday laugh?
