Day 183 - Calling Creatives.

Hey Creatives! Yes, you. I'm shouting out to everyone reading this post today. Yes, you. Yes you are creative and as we get deeper and deeper into this crazy experiment, I'd like to hear how you create. Let's dive deeper into what it means to create for you. In fact, I'd like to interview for this blog.

Do you have something you are working on that you would like to share? Are you a lawyer by day but a novelist by night? Let's talk about your writing. Are you a mom and bake like hell? Let's talk recipes. Do you create projects by hacking Ikea or hairpin legs? That's going to blow everyone's mind. Let's talk furniture. Are you a budding musician? Let's talk about beats and futures. Do you have parenting figured out? Let's hear some wise wisdom. Maybe you are an artist? Let's talk about your work. You opened a farm? Holy cow! Let's talk sheep. You want to create something, anything but don't know where to start?

Let's talk about creating and what means for you. Today's project is to reach out to me and get talking. Let's do an interview. You will get a cool illustration from spilling your work as well as an interesting post to share with everyone in your life.

I'm waiting hear from you. Contact me here and let's get talking!

Day 113 - Sandwiches & Corn Dogs.

Day 113 - Hey you. It's Friday and I'm eating a corndog at 8:00am. Nope, I'm not at a morning carnival. I'm just trying to emotionally eat my way out of this stress and exhaustion from the altMBA class. I'm going to keep this short but I just spent the last 48 hours coming up with 99 business ideas and the models behind each of the 99. I worked as a team but i needed to do 20 ideas alone and it has stretched me beyond what I thought was possible.

I had to learn MBA stuff. Like "Value Propositions" and "Channels." I know. "Hu?" I'm eating another corndog.

The take away from today is there is always a new business idea right around the corner. Let me share with you one of my favorites.

Sandwich John - Got to potty? We hold your sandwich while you loo.

Maybe the start of the logo.

Maybe the start of the logo.

Today's project is to dream up five business. What value would the business add? What problem would it solve? What does the process look like to get the doors open? Write it down and think about being your own boss.

Here is a link to the Business Model Generation Canvas. It was so helpful to create a business plan for the 99 businesses. It creates a great frame work for developing business plans quickly.

I need to go take a nap and maybe eat yet another corn dog. Looking forward to hearing your business ideas. Until tomorrow!

P.S. No paper cups today. It's Earth Day!

Day 105 - Pie Momma.

Day 105 - Hello. Hello. This post is going to be short and sweet. I just realized I bit off more than I can chew with the altMBA class. I have 9 books to read, 4 new programs to learn, 100 new people to meet and 72 articles to read. These posts may get shorter and shorter in the weeks ahead due to the fact I will be drinking knowledge from a fire hose. However, what is most important today is chatting about pie.

My mom makes the best pie in the world. No, I'm not biased. Yes, there are a lot of good pies out there in the world. Are they even close to the flakey goodness my mom rolls out? No way. Not even close. My mom's pies are buttery, crisp in all the right ways and ripe with flavor. However, what makes her pie special is her process. Every time she makes a pie, she makes art.

Today she taught her granddaughter how to make pie. Standing back in the kitchen I watched them both work their magic together. My mom carefully and gently gave my daughter directions on how to mix, roll and cut the crust lovingly. My mom then showed my daughter how to push out the crust using her "north, east, west" process. Their four hands worked the dough and mixed the strawberries together like a beautiful dance. It was a snapshot to be ever held tight. Knowing my daughter was learning something profound with someone who loves her as big as the universe was heart melting.

Today, show someone a special process. They can then learn to create something special in their lives. Spend time showing someone else how to fold an origami crane, make a batch of heirloom cookies or step out the perfected line dance. It doesn't matter the project. It's the people around you and the process that matters.

Ok, I have to hit the books. I'll see you tomorrow and until then I'll leave you with this quote about pie: "If You Wish To Make An Apple Pie From Scratch, You Must First Create The Universe." - Carl Sagan
